How to Prepare for a Job Interview Using AI Practice Questions

Most people prepare for an interview by reading the job ad once and hoping for the best. Practice questions change that.

Interviews are a skill, and like most skills they get better with practice. The problem is that practising on your own is awkward, and friends and family don't always know what to ask. That's where AI practice questions are useful. They give you something realistic to answer, aimed at the specific role you've applied for, whenever you have a spare twenty minutes.

Here's a simple way to prepare using BeesoftAI's Interview Prep tool, without turning your answers into robotic scripts.

Step 1: Start with the job ad

Open the job ad and highlight the main duties and the skills they're asking for. These are the things the interviewers will want evidence of. If it's a government role with selection criteria, keep those in front of you too, since the interview questions often follow them closely.

Step 2: Generate questions for that specific role

Take the role title and the key points from the ad into BeesoftAI's Interview Prep tool and ask for practice questions tailored to the job. A run costs 20 tokens. Ask for a mix: a few about your experience, a few behavioural questions such as tell me about a time when, and a couple of tricky ones, like a question about a weakness or a gap in your resume.

Step 3: Answer out loud, before you read anything

This is the step people skip. Say your answer out loud, or write it down without looking at any suggested answer first. Reading a good answer and thinking yes, I'd say that is not the same as actually saying it under pressure. Your own words, even if they come out clumsy, are the raw material you'll improve.

Step 4: Use a simple structure for behavioural questions

For questions about past situations, a reliable structure is STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Briefly set the scene, explain what you were responsible for, describe what you actually did, and finish with what happened. Most weak answers are missing the last two parts. They describe the situation at length and never get to what the person did or what came of it.

Step 5: Get your answers tightened, not rewritten

Once you've given your own answer, ask the tool to point out what's vague, what's missing, and where you could be more specific. Then rewrite it yourself. If you let the tool write your answers for you, they'll sound like someone else, and an interviewer will probably notice. The aim is to sharpen what you'd naturally say, using your own real experience.

Step 6: Prepare questions to ask them

Most interviews end with do you have any questions for us? Have two or three ready, about the team, what success looks like in the first few months, or what the day to day work involves. It shows you've thought about the job, not just about getting an offer.

Step 7: Practise two or three times, then stop

Two or three rounds of practice is plenty. After that you're better off getting a good night's sleep than polishing the same answers again. If your resume needs a refresh before you start, our guide on writing a resume that gets interviews in Australia is a good place to begin.

The honest bit

AI practice questions are a warm up, not a crystal ball. The tool can't know what a particular interviewer will actually ask, and no suggested answer is a substitute for knowing your own experience well. Only talk about things you've genuinely done, and never let a practice answer stretch the truth. Interviewers often ask follow up questions, and a made up example falls apart quickly.

Used the right way though, practising out loud against realistic questions makes the real interview feel much less like the first time.
